After crossing the Mackinac Bridge we headed to Marquette to visit the Museum of Ojibwa Culture. It was very cool! We learned about their history and what they are doing in the present to preserve their culture and crafts. They have youth programs all year to help the young remember where they come from. They teach the crafts of beading, stitching and much more. Both of our tour guides were natives from the area and were able to answer our questions. We sat in a long house and listened to stories about the Ojibwa people. I would go back to learn more if I return to that area. It was a wonderful experience!

I was on a Northern Michigan History Trip this week with 20 west Michigan teachers. We bussed to new places each day and learned so much! We visited Fort Michillimackinac and learned, among other things, that some of the British soldiers who fought in our Revolutionary War came from that fort. We were able to sample bread, view an archaeological dig, and learn about the people who lived in the fort.
